BLOG#2 RACIST or NOT?

Hey everybody! I made a mistake on the blog i post last time. It didn't answer the question so here's what i think. I don't think Joseph Conrad is racist like all my group members said. Conrad's Heart of Darkness is based on Conrad's journey up the Congo River. He learned about atrocities made by Congo "explorers", and created in the character of Kurtz known as the embodiment of European imperialism. The heart of darkness is the symbol of Marlow’s journey into truth and discovery. Conrad shows Kurtz as a representative of Europe’s men. Towards the end of the story, Kurtz is found to be an artist, a great intellectual, a lover, and a writer. By describing all of these attributes of Kurtz, it shows that Conrad is a great man and not racist. He is just writing about his experiences!

JOSEPH CONRAD

I'm suppose to post a blog about the author. In my last blog i just posted up some basic information. Here is some other things i found out about Joseph Conrad. In 1889, he began his first novel, Almayer’s Folly, and began actively searching for a way to fulfill his boyhood dream of traveling to the Congo. He took command of a steamship in the Belgian Congo in 1890. His experiences in the Congo came to provide the outline for Heart of Darkness. Almayer’s Folly was published in 1894. He then wrote several other books, including one about Marlow called "Youth." A Narrative before beginning Heart of Darkness in 1898. He wrote most of his other major works including Lord Jim, which also features Marlow, Nostromo, and The Secret Agent, as well as several collaborations with Ford Madox Ford during the following two decades. I will tell you more about his books next time!

The heart of darkness!

Hey everybody! I'm doing the author part of my book called The Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad. He was born in the Ukraine in 1857 and English was his third language. His parents died when he was a child. His uncle Tadeusz Bobrowski is the one who watched over him for the next 25 years. Later Conrad travelled to Marseilles where he served in French merchant vessels before joining a British ship in 1878. He got his British certificate in 1886. Eight years later he devote himself into writing and publishing his first novel Almayer's Folly. The following year he married Jessie George and settled in Kent. There he published many books. He was one of the most greatest writers of friction in English. He died in 1924.
